About Dr Coker

Dr David Coker is a highly regarded surgical oncologist, a specialist surgeon for people with cancer. He has specific interest, experience and skills in melanoma, advanced skin cancer and soft tissue sarcoma. Dr Coker is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and originally completed surgical training in Sydney, Australia. He then spent a year in the UK and Europe, further specialising in advanced melanoma and sarcoma surgical techniques before returning to Sydney.

His practice is based in Sydney’s north shore and the inner west, with rooms at North Sydney and Camperdown. He regularly operates at The Mater Hospital North Sydney, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Northern Beaches Hospital.

As an avid educator, he is a respected teacher of surgery at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for the University of Sydney, where he mentors surgical specialist trainees, fellows, and medical students. He has a Masters of Surgical Education from the University of Melbourne.

  • Melanoma

    Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer. It develops in the skin’s pigment cells, known as melanocytes, and can spread via the blood and lymphatic system to distant organs like the lungs, liver and brain. Dr Coker treats melanoma from stage I to stage IV and offers a full suite of surgical options.

  • Advanced Skin Cancer

    Non-melanoma skin cancers such as basal cell skin cancer (BCC), squamous cell skin cancers (SCC) and other rare types of skin cancer.

  • Soft Tissue Sarcoma

    Sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that begins in the connective tissues of the body. Sarcoma occurs when abnormal cells in these types of tissue grow in an uncontrolled way.

  • General Surgery

    Incisional hernias, recurrent hernias, groin hernias, gallbladder problems, endoscopy (gastroscopy/colonoscopy).
